The residents of Ottawa, Canada have taken their city to a whole new level of green. In 2009 they implemented a city wide Green Bin program which collects residential organic waste (such as food scraps, yard waste, or food soiled paper products) and turns it into compost. As a part of the city plan to diverting waste, the Green Bin Program helps provide local farmers with good organic compost that feeds their the city and not their landfills.
