Chiropractic: The Natural Choice for a Growing Family

by Dr. Judy Soborowicz

Many Patients choose to receive chiropractic care throughout their lives because they see the improvements in their lifestyle and health. Families are choosing natural healing disciplines hoping to bypass invasive drugs or surgical options whenever possible. Chiropractic is the third largest health care discipline after medicine and dentistry. Of these three disciplines, chiropractic is the only one based on natural healing methods.

Chiropractic care from the very start of your life can insure your body grows with the proper mobility and balance in the spine, muscle ligaments, and tendons. Think of it this way: Would it be more beneficial to attempt to straighten a curved oak tree or make sure the sapling grew straight to begin with?

Starting with your pregnancy, chiropractic adjustments ensure the proper alignment of your pelvis, and lower back. Due to the physical and hormonal changes during pregnancy, expectant mothers are more prone to misalignments. Pain down the legs, back, or in the pelvic region, and problems with the knees and/or ankles are typical symptoms seen in pregnant women that can be helped with chiropractic care. Proper pelvic alignment and balance is essential due to the supportive relationship of the pelvic bones to the uterus; any misalignment may change the shape and tensions of the uterus.  The resulting loss of shape and symmetry (known as intrauterine constraint) hinders the ability of the uterus to grow and expand normally. Mothers appreciate the benefits of chiropractic during pregnancy commonly commenting on how happy they are for the relief of the gentle adjustments.

Chiropractic is one of the safest forms of children’s health care, and adjustments to a baby or child are performed differently from an adjustment to an adult. A baby’s spine is very supple during the first few months of life, so a chiropractor applies only a slight pressure to make an adjustment. Your child’s spine grows almost 50% in length during their first year; this is equivalent to a six-footer growing to nine feet in just 12 months. It’s this kind of tremendous growth and developmental changes that make a complete chiropractic examination so important in the early stages of a child’s life. Doctors of Chiropractic believe it’s much more important to prevent diseases than wait until disease occurs. The chiropractic drugless and preventive approach to good health makes it perfectly appropriate for infants, children, and teenagers. If there is a problem, the earlier it is corrected, the less likelihood there is of it becoming a chronic or more serious problem later in life. Many of us have problems today that could have been corrected very simply as children. Millions of families choose chiropractic for its safe, natural, and effective approach to health.
